Thermoplastic polyolefin: a single-ply membrane rolled out over the roof and heat-welded at the seams into one continuous sheet. The welds are the point. Done right, a seam is as strong as the sheet itself, which is something glued or taped systems never quite achieve.
It is white. On a Bakersfield summer afternoon, a reflective roof sends a huge share of solar load back into the sky instead of into your cooling bill, and the membrane itself ages slower for staying cooler. Energy code has noticed; so have utility bills.
Almost always at the welds and the details: seams welded too fast or too cold, flashings improvised around equipment, and no walkways so every future AC tech grinds grit into the membrane. Ask any TPO bidder three questions: who tests the welds and how, how equipment curbs get flashed, and where the walkway pads go. The answers tell you who you are dealing with.
